Umpiring

Umpiring is a critical part of netball and offers exciting development pathways. Mittagong Netball Club is committed to training new umpires each year.

For every game played by our teams, Mittagong Netball Club must provide an umpire, therefore providing plenty of opportunities for our umpires to learn and grow.

Getting Started in Umpiring

Becoming a trainee umpire for Mittagong Netball Club is easy, here’s how:

  1. Be a registered member of Netball NSW. (TIP! If you are a registered player in 2025, you will already be a registered member of Netball NSW.)
  2. Download a free e-copy of the Rules of Netball rule book here: World Netball – Rules of Netball 2024
Or purchase a hard-copy of the rule book from Netball Australia here: https://netball.com.au/rules-of-netball
Additionally, you can an download ‘Rules of Netball’ App on your mobile device from the Apple or Android store.
  3. Pass the Rules of Netball Exam ($13).  Learn more here: netball.com.au/umpiring-accreditation
There is also the Foundation Umpire Course online that we would strongly urge you to complete either now or very early on in your umpiring journey ($50).
  4. Provide the Club with all your details here: MNC Umpire Application Form
You will need to attach your Rules of Netball Exam certificate so make sure you do that first.
  5. Complete an Umpire Observation session on game day at Eridge Park. Contact the Club to organise this: mittagongnetballclub@gmail.com
  6. Start umpiring games (with a mentor) for practice and experience! The Club’s Umpire Coordinator is your point of contact for this.
